Hermannus (1013 – 1054) was the son of Count Wolferad of Altshausen and his wife Hiltrud. He was deformed and his body was like a prison. When he was a child, to remove shame, he was taken away from his paternal home and his mother’s affection to be locked up in the monastery of Reichenau.
Hermannus of Altshausen did not know how to hold a fork, to speak, to sit, but his will pushed him to challenge his limits. Thus, the talent previously trapped in his body began to emerge, a talen that would arise the wonder of popes and emperors.
